MISSION / STATEMENT
The Working Group on Migration and Co-Development´s (MCD) main goal is to reach an agreement on the true extent of local governments´ ability to influence migration policies and their responsibility in helping increase levels of development in sending countries .
The Working Group on Migration and Co-Development of Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) includes professional technicians from local governments with high migration processes. This working group may be used as a technical resource base for the Decentralized Cooperation Committee (DCC) from UCLG.
Catalan Fund for Cooperation and Development (Fons Català de Cooperaciò al Desenvolupament) will lead the working group.
The Catalan Fund, a Fund for Cooperation and Solidarity in Spain, is a nonprofit organization in which municipal bodies and other public and private institutions manage a fund for the implementation of decentralized cooperation initiatives. In fact, the Catalan Fund has become a reference forum for political debate on issues such as local governments , decentralization and participatory democracy.
Main goals of MCD Working Group :
-To promote discussion and reflection scenarios of the positive links between migration and development. "Exchanging experiences of local governments related to migration and development and to make recommendations on the subject.
-To create along the UCLG a network of institutions and other initiatives on issues related to migration and development.
-To provide technical advice to the Commission on Decentralized Cooperation UCLG.
Organization ofthree workshops to identify which are the concerns of local governments regarding migration policies. Development of a methodology for the design and implementation of co-development strategies.
