The Global Observatory on Local Democracy and Decentralisation (GOLD) was launched by UCLG in 2006 as part of its objective to become a main source of information on
local self-government, local authorities, governance, local democracy and the exchange of know-how.
GOLD provides information on the state of decentralisation and its evolution, self-government and local governance across the world. The GOLD portal will be supplemented by
periodic Global Reports on Decentralisation and Local Democracy, the first of which was published by UCLG in October 2007 in time for the 2nd World Congress in Jeju, South
Korea. Other relevant publications and informations are also available, like the member and country profiles and new ones are added.
Today, over 1.500 websites with relevant information on local governments can be accessed by navigating the search menu below.
The portal has been developed in paternship with UCLG´s Regional and Metropolitan Sections and new links are being continually added. In the first half of 2007, the portal
will be expanded to include additional search possibilities,
