What is Amiloride?
Amiloride is a diuretic, which increases the amount of urine, making your body to lose salt and water. Amiloride is used for the treatment of hypertension. It is also decreases the swelling and water retention caused by cardiovascular disease, liver or kidney dysfunction.
You must inform your doctor if you have any of the following diseases:
diseases of immune system
kidney/liver dysfunction or kidney stones
small amount of urine or urination problems
allergy to hydrochlorothiazide, sulfa drugs and certain foods
being pregnant or planning a pregnancy
How to use Amiloride?
Take Amiloride orally with water. Stick to the indications on the prescription label. Take your medication at once. Keep in mind that you will have to urinate frequently after taking Amiloride. Therefore, you shouldn’t take the medicine before sleep. Avoid stopping the treatment without the doctor’s approval.
Be very careful while giving the drug to the children.
In case of overdose, call to the poison control center immediately.
Avoid sharing Amiloride with other people.
Missing a dose
If you skip the dosage, take it as soon as possible. If it’s already time for the next dose, skip it and take only the scheduled one. Never exceed the dose.

Visit your physician for monitoring your progress. Measure your blood pressure regularly and inform your doctor about any serious changes.
You may have to follow special diet during the treatment. Ask your physician about it.
Inform your physician if you have severe diarrhea, sickness and vomiting, or perspiration to prevent undesirable effect.
You may experience drowsiness. Therefore, you should avoid driving, operating heavy machinery or do engaging in any activities that require high concentration. Never stand or sit up rapidly, particularly if you’re an older patient. This minimizes the risk of dizziness or fainting. Alcohol may reduce the effect of Amiloride. Therefore, you should avoid drinking alcohol.
Amiloride can affect your blood sugar level. If you suffer from diabetes, tell it to your doctor before changing the dosage of your diabetic drug.
This medication can increase your sensitivity to the sun. Stay away from the sun. If you cannot avoid getting exposed to the sun, remember to apply the sunscreen. Avoid using sun lamps or going to solarium.
Possible adverse effects
In case of the following adverse effects, you should inform your doctor immediately:
allergic reactions, including skin rash or itching, urticaria and face swelling
pain in the chest
fainting or dizziness
pain in the muscles or seizures
numbness in the extremities
skin redness or peeling
