Description

Unfortunately, among the many serious pathologies that often end in a lethal outcome, today the “first palm tree” is firmly held by the diseases of the cardiovascular system. It is common knowledge that necrosis of a specific area of the heart muscle, or myocardial infarction, is the most serious manifestation of heart diseases. Therefore, it is very important to detect signs of atherosclerosis, arterial hypertension, rheumatic heart disease, ischemic heart disease, angina pectoris early in the early stages and begin timely treatment. In cardiological practice, there are many medications for “cores”, as a narrow therapeutic area, and a wide range of actions. Among them, special attention should be paid to medications from the group of adrenoblockers, including the multifunctional drug Coreg. Instruction for use notes that this remedy blocks receptors that are sensitive to hormones adrenaline and norepinephrine. And the effect of this drug is not selective: it is able to block both subtypes of adrenoreceptors – alpha and beta.

Pharmacological effect

Thanks to alpha and beta-blocking properties, the drug Coreg simultaneously has anti-arrhythmic, antihypertensive and anti-anginal action. In addition, this drug is a fairly strong antioxidant, able to eliminate the negative impact of free radicals, which is very important in the treatment of heart disease. The therapeutic effect is to reduce the frequency of heartbeats, reduce peripheral resistance of blood vessels, remove muscle tension in the walls of the left ventricle of the heart (before- and after load) and increase the fraction of ejection from it. As a result, the drug has a multifunctional effect: it prevents left ventricular dysfunction, lowers blood pressure, prevents the development of cardiac muscle ischemia (myocardium). At the same time, the drug does not influence the content of magnesium, sodium and potassium in blood plasma, as well as lipid metabolism. The maximum therapeutic effect occurs an hour after taking the medication.

Indications for use

Coreg is prescribed as a part of mono- and combined therapy for hypertension, stable angina accompanying ischemic heart disease, painless cardiac ischemia (temporary infringement of myocardial blood supply), chronic heart failure.

Conditions for admission

Dosage and duration of the therapeutic course is established by the attending physician individually for each patient, depending on the diagnosis. According to the instructions, in the first 14 days of treatment the patient takes 1 tablet (12.5 milligrams) once a day (with hypertension), or twice a day (with stable angina). In case of insufficient therapeutic effect, you can increase the dose to 25 milligrams in two weeks. Sharply quit taking Coreg is not recommended. The end of treatment should be carried out gradually, reducing the dose of the drug within 10 days.

Contraindications

Like most drugs used in cardiology, the drug Coreg has a number of significant contraindications. It is forbidden to take this medication with pronounced hypotension (low blood pressure), bradycardia (weak heart rhythm), bronchial asthma, atrioventricular blockade of 2nd and 3rd degree, pheochromocytoma (adrenal tumor), Prinzmetal’s angina, cardiogenic shock. You should stop taking this drug in the presence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), intolerance to milk sugar (lactose) and the active ingredient of the drug. Coreg is contraindicated in women during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in persons under the age of 18 years.

Side effect

Of the many side effects that Coreg can cause, the instructions for use highlight the following negative symptoms: dizziness, eye irritation (lacrimation), depression, peripheral edema due to fluid retention, orthostatic hypotension, hives, psoriasis. The gastrointestinal tract may respond with nausea, pain in the abdomen with diarrhea, or constipation. In patients with diabetes mellitus, cases of hyperglycemia were observed.

A fairly solid list of available contraindications and side effects indicates that the treatment process with the drug Coreg should be under medical supervision. Self-medication is excluded, otherwise you will have to deal with more serious health problems.
