Dipyridamole is a drug with angioprotective effect, with a predominant effect on the properties of the blood itself. It is composed of a substance dipyridamole.
Indications for use of Dipyridamole
Dipyridamole is used in case of pathologies of many organs and systems of organs, including diseases of the spine and adjacent structures:
Back surgery and rehabilitation period;
Spine fracture and its consequences.
Atherosclerosis of the spine;
Injuries of the spine with blood circulation;
Cerebrospinal (spinal) stroke.
Contraindications to the use of Dipyridamole
Dipyridamole is contraindicated in some concomitant diseases and conditions:
Allergy to the drug and its components;
Bleeding tendency (subcutaneous and internal);
Severe hypotension (top, systolic blood pressure below 80 mm Hg.St.);
Children up to 12 years;
Myocardial infarction of the acute periods;
Stenosis of the aortic valve.
The principle of operation
The main effect of Dipyridamole is antiplatelet, i.e. reduces the risk of increased blood clotting. The drug reduces the ability of platelets to stick together, thins the blood. Also this medicine reduces inflammation in the blood vessels to some extent, reduces swelling of tissues and restores the metabolic processes between the blood vessels and the spine.
Method of application
Dipyridamole in tablet form
Tablets of Dipyridamole are accepted inside for 1 hour before a meal without chewing, drinking required amount of water. The average daily dosage of the drug is 75-225 mg. The maximum daily dosage is 600 mg. In case of spinal stroke the drug is taken at the dosage of 75 mg 5-6 times a day, in the case of other pathologies – 25-50 mg three times a day. The course of treatment lasts from 1 month to six months.
Dipyridamole in the form of a suspension
Suspension is intended for oral administration for1 hour before meal, and if you want, you may drink a small amount of liquid. In the case of spinal stroke the drug is administered at the dosage of 5-10 ml 5-6 times a day. In the case of other pathologies – 2.5-5 ml 3 times a day. The course of treatment is from 1 month to six months.
Dipyridamole solution for injection
Dipyridamole solution is intended for intravenous or intramuscular injection at the dosage of 1-2 ml per day. The duration of treatment is determined individually, on average – about 2 weeks. Then a patient is transferred to tablets or suspension.
In case of individual hypersensitivity the drug can give several side effects:
Palpitations (tachycardia), from 100 beats per minute;
The feeling of heat all over my body
Bleeding from internal organs;
Subcutaneous hemorrhages, hematomas;
Reduction of blood pressure (hypotension);
Rash on the skin.
If you experience these symptoms, the drug must be temporarily discontinued, and after the disappearance of symptoms the therapy should be renewed, but at a lower dosage and under strict medical supervision.
The overdose of Dipyridamole may cause:
These symptoms require discontinuation of the drug and the intake of symptomatic drugs.
During the period of pregnancy and lactation, Dipyridamole can be taken only in extreme cases where the symptoms of the underlying disease of a mother are strongly expressed and there are no other therapeutic options.
Children up to 12 years are prohibited to receive Dipyridamole due to the lack of data on the impact of the drug on the child’s body. After 12 years the drug is administered in minimal adult doses.
An alcoholic beverage does not affect the action of Dipyridamole.
