Use

Probalan is intended for the treatment of chronic gout caused by hyperuricemia. The drug allows you to eliminate the excess of uric acid from your body. This is a very efficient drug, however it’s not a remedy. It helps you to prevent the appearance of gout arthritis. Probenecid can be taken together with certain pain killers for the treatment of infections.

Dosage

The common dosage of Probalan is 500 mg. You must take the pill orally, irrespective of the mealtime. Take it two times a day, together with antacids or alone. The treatment with Probalan increase the risk of kidney stones. Therefore, you should drink about 9 glasses of water to prevent this condition. To reduce the urine acidity, your physician may prescribe you other drugs, such as sodium bicarbonate/citrate.

The dose depends on the severity of your disease and your reaction to the treatment. You should start the treatment with a low dose, and then gradually increase it. After relieving from the gout symptoms, your physician may reduce your dosage. Don’t take the drug if you have a gout attack. You should wait until it’s over, and then start the treatment.

Probalan is not a painkiller. Therefore, you should take the drugs that are prescribed by your doctor to alleviate the pain caused by gout arthritis. The biological half-life of this drug is about 4 hours.

Adverse effects

Rash, gout aggravation, loose bowels, vomiting, vertigo, sleepiness, sickness, itching, fever, anemia, hematuria, breathing problems, swelling of the glands, excessive bleeding and nephrotic syndrome are some of the usual adverse effects. In this case, you should contact your doctor at once. Certain health conditions can affect the action of Probalan. You should inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, cancer, stomach ulcer or blood disorder.

Drug interactions

Avibactam, Deferiprone, Doripenem, Citalopram, Methotrexate, Pegloticase and Zalcitabine are some of the drugs that must not be mixed with Probalan. You should take Probalan with great caution. Some foods, alcoholic drinks and nicotine can interact with the medication. But in some cases, your physician may change the dose to provide your safety.
