The effectiveness of buspirone in the treatment of anxiety of mentally retarded persons was not subjected to controlled trials. However, it is shown that it can be useful for self-injurious actions.
Buspar is struggling with mental and autonomic manifestations of fear. In other words, it is an anxiolytic agent. In addition, it has significant antidepressant effect. Compared to classic drugs of this type, it does not give sedative effect, and doest not relax muscles. You can also say that Buspar has incorporated qualities of both antidepressants and anxiolytics. Thus, the drug has a complex effect that allows you to deal with several problems simultaneously.

A significant advantage of the drug is that it does not cause the slightest addiction, and after the cessation of its application men do not have withdrawal syndrome.

In clinical trials it was found that buspirone has a positive effect on symptoms of social phobia, one of the most common varieties of anxiety disorders. So, 12 weeks of use of the drug were enough for the improvement of condition of 2/3 of the patients.

Buspar is ideal for the treatment of depression with concomitant use of antidepressants of SSRIs (selective inhibitors of serotonin reuptake). The drug not only enhances the antidepressant effect of this therapy, but also can prevent sexual dysfunction, which can occur as a side reaction to the SSRI drugs.

Pharmacological action:

the drug acts on several receptors in the brain (mainly serotonin and dopamine receptors). The effect occurs gradually and is felt at the end of the first or second weeks of treatment. The peak effect was observed after 1 month of treatment.

Indications for use:

Buspar is used as a means of combating anxiety. First of all it concerns neurosis, which is accompanied by such unpleasant symptoms as insomnia, irritability, various somatic disorders, as well as a sense of danger, tension, worry and anxiety. In addition, the drug is used as a component of complex therapy for mild depression, as well as in case of alcohol withdrawal (as secondary therapy).

Drug contraindications:

avoid taking Buspar during breastfeeding and pregnancy. Don’t take the drug in case of hypersensitivity, severe liver disease, renal failure, seizures, myasthenia gravis and acute glaucoma. Finally this drug is prohibited to people under the age of 18 .

Method of application and dosage:

the drug is taken orally. You should start treatment with Buspar at a dosage of 15 mg /day for 3 admission. The effective dose is usually from 20 to 30 mg, it it is necessary to gradually increase the dosage by 5 mg every 2-3 days. The limit daily dose is 60 mg.

Side effects:

Buspar is a safe drug in terms of lack of dependence, however, it can cause a number of side reactions. They are dizziness, fatigue, nausea, headaches, tachycardia, dryness in mouth, irritability, drowsiness, or, conversely, arousal.
