Sinequan’s main active component is Doxepin, a medicine which belongs to the group of tricyclic antidepressants. Doxepin may impact the balance of brain neurotransmitters, allowing to cure a huge number of mood disorders. Sinequan comes in the form of gelatin capsules, color marked for different dosages.

Sinequan can be used for the treatment of depressive disorder, anxiety, bipolar disorder, sleeplessness, and sometimes alcohol abuse and mood disorders. Doxepin was intended as well for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactive disorder (ADHD). However, it was substituted for the new drugs aimed at the treat of this condition.

Dosage

Sinequan must be taken strictly according to the doctor’s prescriptions. Swallow the pills. Take the drug at the same time every day to achieve the maximum effect.

Never exceed the drug dosage. The high dose of Doxepin, the main active substance of Sinequan, can be very toxic. The common signs of Doxepin overdose are: dryness in the mouth, mydriasis, sleepiness, vision impairment, urination problems, hyperreflexia and stupor.

Serious symptoms of Doxepin overdose include: seizures, respiratory distress, too low/high blood pressure, tachycardia, heart arrhythmia or coma. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical assistance.

Note

According to the research, Sinequan enhances the risk of suicidal tendencies in kids and teenagers with major depressive disorder and similar disease. Therefore, Sinequan should be used only by adults.

Family members and doctor should monitor closely the patients starting the antidepressant treatment.

Adverse effects

The following adverse effects may be caused by the use of Sinequan:

Dryness in the mouth
Vision impairment
Vertigo
Sleepiness
Blockage
Urination difficulty

The adverse effects are easy to manage. Chew the gum to get rid of the dryness in the mouth. Drink enough water to improve urination. Eat the foods rich in fiber to fight constipation. Always get up gradually to avoid dizziness. Contact your doctor if any of the adverse effects persist or get worse.

Serious adverse effects occur rarely. However, the drug may cause acid reflux, stomachache or mood changes. Contact your doctor at once if you note the above-mentioned adverse effects.

Precautions

Avoid taking Sinequan if you have allergy to Doxepin or any tricyclic antidepressants.

Don’t take this drug if you’re pregnant or are planning a pregnancy without the doctor’s approval. Sinequan can get into the breast milk to a baby so the medicine must not be used by the nursing mothers.

Avoid driving if Sinequan causes adverse effects like vision impairment or vertigo.

Sinequan is not advised for patients suffering from heart diseases, liver dysfunction, glaucoma, urination problems, cramps, breathing difficulty, bleeding disorder or mood swings.
